Mississippi’s Hancock County School District has filed a class action against Riddell, Varsity Brands, BSN Sports and other sporting-goods companies, alleging they rigged bids and fixed prices from 2010 to 2023 to inflate what K-12 schools in Mississippi and Louisiana paid for athletic equipment. Several sales professionals at these companies have already pleaded guilty to federal charges tied to the scheme.
Cuneo Gilbert Flannery & LaDuca’s Charles J. LaDuca and Evelyn Yifei Riley represent the school district and were both quoted in the Sun Herald’s coverage of the case.
“Every dollar overpaid for a helmet or a uniform is a dollar that didn’t go to students. This lawsuit seeks to return that money to the districts that lost it,” said Charles J. LaDuca.
