Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca, led by partner Charles Barrett, has filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of individuals whose sensitive personal and health information was compromised in a widespread data breach at Aflac Incorporated. The lawsuit, brought in federal court in Georgia, alleges that Aflac failed to implement adequate data security measures, leading to the unauthorized access of claims information, health data, Social Security numbers, and other personally identifiable information. The case seeks damages and injunctive relief to protect affected individuals and prevent future breaches.
“We’re committed to holding Aflac accountable for its failure to safeguard highly sensitive personal and health data. This breach has serious consequences, and our goal is to ensure affected individuals get answers, protection, and meaningful relief,” said Charles.
Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca is representing people affected by the data breach, including Aflac customers, beneficiaries, employees, agents, and others whose information was maintained in Aflac’s U.S. systems. According to Aflac’s own notice, the breach may have exposed data dating back several years, and a full review is still ongoing.
“This case is about basic accountability. Companies that collect and store sensitive data have a responsibility to protect it—and when they don’t, we will act to protect the people put at risk.”
