The Washington Post recently reported on the federal court decision rejecting the Federal Trade Commission’s effort to unwind Meta’s acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. In the article, CGL’s Chair of Public Policy & Legislative Affairs, Slade Bond, emphasized the significance of the setback for antitrust enforcement in digital markets. “I think it’s a catastrophic decision for antitrust and for Big Tech accountability more generally,” Bond said. “I think the court’s decision fundamentally misconstrued how these markets work.”
The Post noted that the Meta ruling adds to a string of mixed outcomes in recent Big Tech antitrust litigation and raises renewed questions about how courts and policymakers will evaluate competition in the digital economy.
