Peter Gil-Montllor focuses on antitrust, consumer protection, and class action litigation. He has had a central role in multidistrict litigation (MDL) cases involving price-fixing cartels. Mr. Gil-Montllor has experience coordinating with state and federal antitrust enforcers and has investigated and litigated claims against:
- Pharmaceutical corporations that conspired to fix the prices of over two hundred generic drugs (often tripling or quadrupling the pre-collusion prices). On behalf of independent pharmacies and hospitals, Mr. Gil-Montllor’s investigation uncovered evidence that major drug distributors joined an industry-wide scheme to increase prices and to limit competition to keep prices elevated.
- An international organization that contracted to have Cuban medical doctors work abroad, under coercion and strict surveillance, in violation of international law and U.S. statutes prohibiting human trafficking and forced labor.
- Private prison contractors that engaged in bribery and corruption of state prison officials.
- International seafood conglomerates that conspired to raise the prices of packaged tuna sold in the United States and to prevent marketing of tuna caught with fish-friendly methods.
Prior to joining CGL, Mr. Gil-Montllor clerked for the Hon. Allyne R. Ross of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York and was a litigator at a large law firm in New York, where he worked on anti-money laundering investigations and his pro bono work included obtaining asylum for a political activist who was tortured in his home country.
Mr. Gil-Montllor is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. While in law school, he was an Articles Editor for the Georgetown Journal of International Law and worked on international law issues at the State Department’s Office of the Legal Adviser. In addition, Mr. Gil-Montllor helped represent the plaintiff in a Supreme Court case concerning collective actions for wage theft (11-1059, Genesis HealthCare v. Symczyk) and wrote a successful opposition to certiorari in a case challenging an online payday lending contract as unconscionable (13-97, Geneva-Roth v. Kelker). Before law school, Mr. Gil-Montllor was a debate coach at Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, NY and at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, FL.
Mr. Gil-Montllor enjoys ultralight solo long-distance hiking and has hiked the entirety of the Appalachian, Pacific Crest, Colorado, and Continental Divide Trails. He is a supporter of the conservation group Adventure Scientists.
