Past AccomplishmentsJoe Camel Tobacco SuitThis landmark case resulted in the release of 10,000 documents showing how R.J. Reynolds used the "Joe Camel" cartoon character to market cigarettes to children. In this case, Mangini v. R.J. Reynolds, our firm represented the County of San Francisco, which joined with other governments to seek changes in the tobacco marketing. The case settled prior to trial in 1997, resulting in the end of the Joe Camel campaign. Rep. Henry Waxman, one of the nation's leading foes of tobacco marketing to children, describes our role here. The documents made public from this suit are available at the University of California San Francisco "Tobacco Legacy" website here. |
