Our practice has two main components: litigation and legislative/public advocacy. Rather than being separate and distinct practice areas, though, they are integrated and complementary in key respects. Much of our litigation practice concerns important issues of public policy. Much of our legislative and public advocacy practice concerns litigation. We are especially well known for developing and implementing the legislative strategy for national class actions. Significant cases in which we have performed this role include Enron and WorldCom.

COMPLEX LITIGATION

We represent a diverse array of clients—individuals, businesses, state and local governments, public interest organizations, unions, and others—in litigation and related matters brought before federal and state trial and appellate courts, the executive branch, government regulatory agencies, independent counsel, and Congress. Many of our cases are brought as class actions on behalf of thousands, even sometimes millions, of injured plaintiffs. Many are national or international in their importance and scope. We often partner with other prominent law firms around the country.

Unlike many firms, we are not organized into specialized practice groups. Our lawyers bring their advocacy skills and litigation experience to bear on a diverse array of complex trial and appellate cases that often cut across many substantive areas of law. We believe this to be one of our most valuable strengths. We have, though, acquired substantial and valuable experience in litigating cases in certain key substantive areas of law. They include:
