Campaign Finance Reform – Supreme Court Brief for Members of Congress in McConnell v. FEC

Lead Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca, L.L.P. Attorney:
Jonathan W. Cuneo

We represent a group of members of Congress of both parties as amicus curae (friends of the court) in the litigation over the new campaign finance law (McCain-Feingold-Shays-Meehan). This was the largest group of lawmakers to file a brief in this case. The Members of Congress argued that the new law, which banned the use of "soft money" in federal elections and regulated campaign ads that are presented as phony "issue ads," is necessary to prevent the appearance and reality of corruption.
